I ponied up for the monthly membership for Chat-GPT Plus and it’s worth every dime. It’s teaching me new things. I have an ongoing conversation with it about containers as I learn how to work with those and Kubernetes. It helps me find errors in my shell scripts. As long as I know what I’m looking for, I feel unstoppable in my profession. For example, in my new job, I’ll be expected to do database tuning, something I’ve never done before. I can stand up databases and configure them. I can add tables and valuea and query data but I’m no DBA. Chat-GPT isn’t a DBA either but it will do the time-consuming research in seconds that would normally take me several hours. It doesn’t just give me the anwers either. I learn why the answers are correct.
The amount of information I’ve been able to add to my personal notes is astounding. Getting it into my brain ia another subject. I study a variety of topics. The topics I’ve discussed with Chat-GPT are organized for me so I can switch between them. It’s almost like having a second brain. Imagine a real neural interface that gives us Chat-GPT output right to our neurons? That would be fucking wild.
And then we have accuracy. Chat-GPT looks at multiple web pages before drawing conclusions. It seems to be able to filter out the wheat from the chaff, and that’s important. There’s a lot of bad information out there but a lot more good information.
